Discipline

One of the most important lessons education should teach is appropriate behavior. It is the shared responsibility of the home and school to accomplish this goal. It is the training that develops self-control, character, orderliness and efficiency. Discipline is the key to good conduct and proper consideration for other people. Good discipline is maintained by recognizing and praising good behavior and taking corrective action when necessary. Students are expected to put forth their best efforts and to conduct themselves at all times in a manner that will promote a safe, orderly learning environment. All students at Boone Trail Elementary will follow a behavior plan outlining rules and consequences of behavior.  Teachers are encouraged to utilize this plan and develop a plan of incentives which reward students who consistently display good citizenship.  Students are to observe all rules and regulations established by the teacher as well as those rules and regulations established by school policy.

  The following types of discipline may be used at Boone Trail in any possible combination or separately, according to the severity of the problem:

A.   Verbal reprimand

B. Denial of specific privileges

C. Teacher-student conference

D.   Teacher-student-parent conference

E. Teacher-student-parent-principal conference

F.   Other consequences as determined by administration and / or parents

G.   Suspension: The term "suspension" is defined as the removal of a student from school and/or school activities, including riding a school bus.  The term also means "in-school suspension" or a combination of the two.  A student may be suspended from school for serious misconduct or repeated violations of school rules.  The student will be reinstated only after a parent conference with the principal.

a. In-room suspension: Students are not permitted to take part in extracurricular programs during their suspension. All school privileges are also suspended.  The student may be confined to another classroom supervised by a teacher.

H.   Expulsion:  A student may be expelled from school when his/her conduct is clearly criminal, poses a threat to others, or shows no hope or correction through less severe discipline.
