Accelerated Reader - A student and teacher monitored computer program that allows students to take comprehension quizzes on books they have read. See attachment below for a list of AR books.

Young Author's -This is a writing opportunity to become a published author sponsored through the Harnett County Reading Association.  A different theme is provided each year, which enables students and teachers an opportunity to write poems, short stories, and other genre.

Spelling Bee - A school and Harnett County sponsored activity where our students are encouraged to learn and spell higher level words.  Competetion first occurs in the classroom, followed by a school wide bee.  School winner has the opportunity to compete at the County Level.

Celebration of Learning -This program recognizes and honors our students who achieve all A's throughout the first three grading periods.

Accelerated Math -A student and teacher monitored assessment of students' mastery of individual standards.

In-School Tutoring Program -Certified individuals support our students with individual and small group tutoring services throughout the year.

Science Fair -Individuals or small groups use the scientific process to conduct an experiment.  The winners from our school move on to the county level competition.

Harnett Off Broadway -Wayne Avenue's Chorus has the opportunity to showcase their talents by performing at THS with the other area schools.

End of Grading Period Awards Ceremonies -Students are awarded for their hard work and effort with a recognition ceremony.  Awards include:  
  G.E.M. -Going the Extra Mile-A student who stands out from the rest
  Principal's List- Students who recieve all A's on their report card
  Honor Roll -Students who recieve all A's and B's on their report card
  Perfect Attendance -Students who come to school on time every day
  Citizenship -Students with good conduct
  B.U.G. -Students who bring their grades up from one quarter to the next.  This
  begins second quarter
