Congratulations to Mrs.Teresa Aiken

Coats-Erwin Middle School Teacher of the Year! 

 Mrs. Aiken is a career educator with 28 years of teaching experience; 25 years in Harnett County. She has been the Choral Director and instructor at Coats-Erwin Middle since it opened in 1999. 

Mrs. Aiken attended Campbell University and earned her Bachelor of Music Education Degree. She received a Master's of Music Education from East Carolina University and earned her National Board Certification n Music Education in 2003.

She has served as a choral clinician, adjudicator, and accompanist for county and state choral festivals and is a member of the Music Educator's Association, American Choral Directors Association, and the National Teacher Association. 

Mrs. Aiken's choral groups have performed at the Music Eduator's Conference, NC Middle School Conference, NC Governor's Mansion, Carowinds, Harnett Off Broadway and numerous community functions. They have scored consistent superior and excellent ratings at Music Performance Assessments for Large and Small Choral Ensembles.

Teresa has also been the Music Director at Erwin First Baptist Church for 25 years, directing children, youth and adult choirs and handbells. She and her husband Walter reside in Erwin and have three children.
