Class Assignments

Parents:  Please access the PAM for explanation regarding assignments for the duration of the year.  If you do not already signed up, please contact the data manager from your youngest student's school.

ALL LATE ASSIGNMENTS AND EXTRA CREDIT ARE DUE BY TUESDAY, MAY 28.  THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTION MADE TO THIS DATE.

North Carolina State Science Exam - (Tuesday, June 4th) This state assessment will feature 30 multiple choice questions and 3 essay questions.  Harnett County has decided that this test must be added to each students grades as a test.

Spongebob Codominance (5/15, due 5/16) Now that students understand the concept of simple dominance, we moved on to two dominant alleles with Poofkins and Goobers.  This was graded on completion.  At the beginning of class, a student either got 100 for having it done, a 60 for only having what we did in class the day before, or a 0 for not even having the sheet done.  Because we went over the answers in class, those that did not complete the assignment for homework can resubmit the assignment for a 70.  This sheet can be found in the document manager.

Spongebob Genetics Quiz (in class 5/15) Students demonstrated their understanding of basic Mendelian genetics with this quiz.  Students are allowed to schedule a retake of this quiz at a time after school that is pre-arranged so that I know that I can be available.

Bean Genes/Penny Probability (in class 5/14, due 5/15) This was two activities done in class.  One reinforced the notion of probability, and the other demonstrated probability as it pertains to the Punnett square.

Spongebob Genetics 2 (assigned 5/9, due 5/10)  Students will practice their skills of using a punnett square on the residents of Bikini Bottom.  This assignment was graded on completion and then reviewed in class on 5/10.  The assignment can be found in the document manager.

Bill Nye:  Genetics (in class 5/2)  Students will write down 10 facts they learned in this introductory look at our new unit on genetics.

Nervous System test (5/1) Students will demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the nervous system including the brain, nerves, senses, and the endocrine system.  Study guide has been available in the document manager since April 24.  Test corrections are due no later than Wednesday, May 8.

Endocrine worksheet (assigned 4/30, due 5/1) students will match the endocrine gland to where it is in the body and what it does.  5th period must also complete bookwork (key terms on page 478, and the section assessment on page 483).  They will have one day to check out a text book

Ear and Eye Worksheet (assigned 4/25, due 4/30) students labelled tha parts of the eye and ear during class.

Brain worksheet (assigned 4/23, due 4/24) students labelled the parts of the brain in class on one side, and then they needed to color the different lobes of the cerebrum on the other side of the page. Both sides of this worksheet can be found in the document manager.

Opinion Writing assignment (assigned 4/18, due 4/23)  per Harnett County Schools, all 7th grade students are to prepare a formal writing assignment for each class taken.  The prompt for science will be "Should people be required to wear a helmet during risky activities (cycling, skating, skateboarding, motorcycling, horseback riding)?  These activities put a participant at risk of traumatic brain injury.  For this assignment, students must have a pre-writing (brainstorm), a double-spaced rough draft, and a typed final copy.  Each element will receive a grade.  Opinion support can include topics such as personal freedoms and medical costs.  Different viewpoints of this debate will be discussed in class on 4/18.  Students will have the entire class period to write (by hand) their rough draft and to peer edit).  Students will have the entire class period on 4/22 to type the paper. 

Digestive System Test (4/16)  in order to prepare for this test, students were able to download the study guide in the document manager, and they had all period on Monday to work on the study guide or their webquest.

Digestive System Webquest (assigned 4/12, due 4/15)  students will explore the Kids Health website and answer questions about the digestive system.  The webquest can be found in the document manager, and is an assignment that will be submitted online.

Digestive System Worksheet (assigned 4/11 or 4/12, due 4/15) students will color code the digestive system on one side and compare/contrast mechanical and chemical digestion on the other side.  Both sides of the worksheet can be found in the document manager.

Circulatory, Respiratory, and Excretory Test (4/9)  Students will demonstrate their mastery of these three body systems.  A study guide was given on 3/27 a review was done on 4/8 to help those students that forgot everything over spring break.  Test corrections will be due on Monday, April 15

Respiratory System worksheet (assigned 3/26, due 3/27)  Students had to label the respiratory system and answer questions on the back.  Both sides of the worksheet can be found in the document manager.
