The mission of Highland Elementary Media Center is to facilitate the education of the Highland Community. 

1.  What are the Media Center hours?

The Media Center is open at 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. on most school days.

2.  What kinds of resources are available for student and parents?

Books, ebooks, playaways, and Books on Tape/CD are the primary resources available.  Parents and students are welcome to access the resources at this site.

3. What time can parents visit the Media Center?

Parents can visit during their student's class time, however parents should check-in at the front office and receive a visitor's identification tag.  Parents that wish to volunteer are welcome. 

4. What kinds of lessons are taught in the Media Center? 

All students are taught lesson in conformance with Common Core and the NC Essential Standards.

 

Students in Kindergarten and 1st Grade

*Students in Kindergarten and 1st Grade have a 10 to 15 minutes checkout

every class period. After checking out books students participate in a 15 to 25

minutes Read Aloud Session or 10 to 15  minute activities related to Common Core State Standards Lessons that are related to their studies. 

 

Students in 2nd through 5th Grade

Students in 2nd through 5th Grade usually have  10 - 18 minutes checkout  period every class visit.  After checkout students usually have a 35 -27 minutes Read Aloud Session and/or Silent Reading or a  35 - 27  minute

lesson based upon Common Core  and Essentials Standards for that is related

to their studies. 

 

 

*This schedule does not begin until the first month of orientation is completed.
