Former students who earned certificates from Harnett County Schools (HCS) can now receive a diploma due to a change in state law. Students who met all state and local graduation requirements except for passing the Computer Skills Test or Competency Test in Reading and Math can petition the district for a diploma.

In accordance with state legislation, the tests were eliminated and are no longer required for graduation. Current students who have not passed the tests will be eligible to receive a diploma if they meet all other requirements.

*The Computer Skills requirement started with the graduating class of 2001.
*The Reading and Math competency requirement started with the graduating class of 1982. 
*Petitions for diplomas will be accepted during a five year window through July 1, 2014.

Previous Harnett County School 's graduates who received a certificate between the years of 1981 - 2009 should contact their former high school to petition for a diploma.
