A program in which backpacks are filled with meals and snacks. The backpacks are sent home over the weekend. This program was developed to help reduce hunger for students in need. The bookbags are assembled and packed at a church in Cameron on Thursday nights. The filled bookbags are then delivered and handed out on Fridays. The kids return them the following Monday and they're refilled for the next weekend. The donations come from local businesses, fundraisers, churches, clubs, etc. in the community. Our food drives helped provide some of the needed items for students at our school and around other parts of the county. |

This project takes place in November/December of each school year. Students in all classes donate spare change to help purchase clothes, food, toys, etc. for selected students (identified by staff members).

In case of "wardrobe malfunctions," Lillington-Shawtown Elementary School maintains a clothing closet. Clothes, underclothes, socks, and shoes are kept for those students who may need them during the school day (thus they avoid having to return home to change).
Coats and other seasonal items are also kept in stock for any child who might need them. |
