Students receive spelling words on Wednesday and will be assessed Wednesday two weeks later. Please remember that your child must complete all activities for their spelling contract which is at the bottom of this page in case your child has misplaced it. These are to be turned in the day of the spelling test. No new words will be given for work over Spring break. I have anchor charts up in our classroom to remind students how they are to write their homework on their paper. We must be neat but at the same time use all the paper - front and back. Students will now be responsible for their entire list. Children will receive words on Thursday and be tested the second Wednesday later. Homework is as follows: Thursday - Write two fractions for each spelling word. For the first fraction, show the number of vowels in the word compared to the total number of letters. For the second fraction, show the number of consonants compared to the total number of letters. Monday - Choose 5 words and write five good sentences (more than five words each). Tuesday - Choose 5 words and write the pronunciation and part of speech of each. Wednesday - Choose 5 words and write an antonym (opposite meaning) and synonym (same meaning) for each. Thursday - Choose 5 words and write the definition in your own words. Monday - Choose 5 words and write an interesting story, poem, letter, etc. Tuesday - Parent will give a test to the student. After grading, the parent will continue to call out the missed words until all words are spelled correctly. **You must have used all words after completing the Monday assignment. This allows your students the opportunity to interact with all the words in different ways. This will provide for more understanding of the words not just the week's rules and spelling. |
