About the Teacher:

I have been teaching at Harnett Central High School since August of 2003 and have thoroughly enjoyed my teaching experience.  I have always had a love for American history and an admiration for those who came before us.  In my personal studies, I have concentrated in military history, with the Civil War and World War II being my favorite time periods. I try to bring history to life in my classroom through video clips, music, dancing, writing, documents, photography, costumes and guest speakers.  I attempt to make our nation's past a story, rather than a lecture.

I graduated from Lee Senior High School and went on the attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  There I received my BA in History and my MA in Teaching.  Today, I live in Lee County with my husband and two little girls.  I am very close to my family, many of whom fostered my love for history from childhood.  My father is a guest speaker in my classroom every semester, speaking on the Civil War era and the Battle of Gettysburg and leading the students in singing and the Virginia Reel.

I hope that I can have a positive influence on all of the students I teach and make their US History experience both enjoyable and successful.  It is my goal that this website help make that possible. I want students to leave my classroom with a firmer grasp of both their nation's struggles and triumphs and a determination to be active citizens in their democracy.
