At South Harnett Elementary School, we are very concerned about the safety of students on our buses.
School safety is something that must not be taken for granted or neglected. Harnett County Schools have a history of very few bus accidents, and we want to continue this outstanding record.
Student misconduct is the number one cause of bus accidents. For this reason you are expected to
maintain classroom type behavior while riding the bus. Please understand that riding the bus is a privilege that can be taken from you if you fail to observe school bus rules.
In order to deal with bus problems in a fair and consistent manner, the following procedures will be
used. Please understand that these procedures are the minimum disciplinary actions that will be taken. The principal reserves the right to increase punishment if the offense warrants such an increase.
A. FIRST OFFENSE - Written warning given to the student, parent, and placed on file.
B. SECOND OFFENSE - One to three days suspension from bus with written notice sent to parent and a copy filed.
C. THIRD OFFENSE - Three to five days suspension from bus with written notice sent to the parent
and a copy filed.
D. FOURTH OFFENSE - 10-20 days suspension from the bus with written notice sent to the parent and a copy filed.
E. FIFTH OFFENSE - Bus suspension for the remainder of the year and notification to parent.

Students may ride only their assigned bus. When it becomes necessary for a student to ride a different
bus or get off at a different stop, permission must be granted by the principal, assistant principal, or designee.
A student making such a request must have a written request from his parent. The teacher will send
these notes to the office each morning and issue a bus pass for the student to give to the bus driver. If a bus is operating at capacity, a student will not be allowed to transfer to that bus, regardless of the reason.
All phone calls requesting bus/car transportation changes must be received prior to 1:30 p.m. to give the
office appropriate time to contact the teachers.

Students are to understand that any absences due to being suspended from the bus are unexcused.
It is the responsibility of parents to provide student's transportation during times of suspension.
