¡Hola! My name is Ana Velazquez. I am a native of Puerto Rico. I am excited and honored to be part of the OHS Jaguar's family. I've been part of the Jaguar family since Spring 2011 and I love it! My goal as a teacher is to ensure that my students learn the basics of the Spanish language using the Interpretive (listening and reading), Interpersonal (speaking and writing) and Presentational (speaking and writing) modes of communication. I will use some strategies targeted for communicative language teaching to help students acquire the target language (Spanish), using the proficiency levels set by ACTFL (American Council of Teaching Foreign Languages) according to the level of Spanish your daughter/son is studying. I will promote interculturality by studying and reflecting on the Hispanic culture's successes and challenges, therefore, creating global awareness and the exploration (on their own) of other perspectives of the world we live in. This way, students can make connections with other cultures and their own and can see the world with a new set of lenses. I will use technology to comply with the 21st Century skills to enhance my lessons and bring the Hispanic world into my classroom. I want my students to succeed in life, I want them to be responsible citizens in our community, and help them reach the next level.
Finally, I am excited to be working with you and your daughter/son this semester!!
