Degrees and Certifications:

Bachelor of Music Education from UNC Chapel Hill Orff Level I Certification

Mrs. Kathy Sutter

My earliest music making memory is of me singing beside my aunt while she was playing the piano and being eye level with the piano keys.  I have loved it ever since!  I started taking guitar lessons in third grade, then took up piano, and played the French horn in High School band.  I sang in church and school choral groups and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Music Education degree (my principle instrument was voice).

I have been teaching music in various capacities for over 30 years, including private music lessons and as adjunct voice faculty at Campbell University, but this is my 25th year teaching in Harnett County schools.  I taught at Shawtown Primary and Lillington Elementary prior to teaching at LSES.  I was a Tyco Electronics Educator of the Year finalist in 2001, and I was honored to be named Teacher of the Year at Shawtown Primary in 2001 - 2002 and at LSES in 2003 - 2004.  I have had three wonderful opportunities to be an Elementary Choir clinician for the Harnett County Honors Chorus in 2011, 2012, and 2013 (all held at Campbell University).

I have been an instructor at the summer Children's Choir Camp at Campbell University since its inception in 1999.  I received my level I Orff-Schulwerk certification in 2001.  My husband and I have also worked together as part-time ministers of music at Lillington Baptist Church for 33 years.

I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 40 years.  My husband retired in June of 2014 from his position as band director at Western Harnett High School where he taught for 31 years.  He taught chorus at Western part-time until the Fall of 2017.  We have two sons, Matthew, (36) and Mason (30).  I love to read, I love traditional music from Ireland and Scotland (my husband and I went to Ireland in August of 2016!), and I really love to help my students discover how music can enrich their lives.
