What is Reading Reading?
Reading Recovery is a highly effective short-term intervention for children who performs low in literacy in first grade. Children meet individually with a specialty trained teacher for 30 minutes each day for an average of 12-20 weeks. The goal is for children to develop effective reading and writing strageties in order to work within an average range of classroom performance.
Referrals for the program are obtained from the classroom teachers and are then given a series of assessments called the "Observation Survey." This includes letter identification, word identification, hearing sounds in words, and reading level.
