HCS Beginning Teacher Program
Harnett County Schools' desire for our Beginning Teachers is to develop a program that provides the necessary assistance to ensure success in teaching by developing a nurturing community of learners.
Our Recruitment and Retention Coaches are available to assist new teachers in several capacities. All first-year teachers are provided a three-day orientation in August. During the orientation, professional development is conducted in areas such as classroom management, time management, and curriculum/instruction. Throughout the year, the Recruitment and Retention Coaches will work directly with all Beginning Teachers to provide differentiated support.
Recruitment and Retention Coaches will also informally observe and visit new teachers on a regular basis. However, the most important assistance that is provided to Beginning Teachers comes from Mentors serving each beginning teacher at the school level. The Mentors serve as a daily positive role model and provide encouragement and support.
