Mrs. Amanda Curva
My name is Mrs. Amanda Curva and I am an Autism/Life Skills teacher here at Highland.
I was born and raised in upstate NY in the suburban community of Latham. I am married and have three wonderful sons named Cameron(12), Christian(11), and Caiden(4). I am expecting our 4th son, due in early October.
I've been an educator for 15 years. I spent my first 7 years working in a small city school district in Cohoes, NY. Five of those years were spent in sixth grade (middle school), with the remaining two spent focusing on reading and math in a self-contained exceptional children's class of second, third, and fourth graders.
In 2010 I was offered and gladly accepted a position as a 4th grade teacher here at Highland Elementary School. I am so happy to be here in North Carolina. Teaching is my passion and I spend my summers preparing for the fall.
I taught Kindergarten for 4 1/2 years and was grade chair for the final 2 years in that position. In December 2016 I was offered the position of AU/Life Skills teacher here, which I excitedly accepted. I began teaching this class in January 2017. I am very excited to be back in an EC classroom!
When I'm not teaching I love to hike, swim, and do ropes courses/zip-lining. My family even has a zip line in our backyard! I also spend my free time watching my sons' wrestling matches and baseball games. This takes up majority of our evenings so I know all about what it's like to juggle extracurricular activities and school.
Looking forward to a fantastic school year!
