Communications Specialist
The Communications Specialist supports Harnett County Schools through strategic communications, , multimedia storytelling, internal communications and digital engagement. Working with district leadership, schools, and departments, the Communications Specialist helps provide timely and accurate information while sharing the stories, achievements, programs, and people that make Harnett County Schools a great place to learn and work.
Through writing, photography, videography, graphic design, social media, web content, and other communications platforms, the position helps connect students, families, employees, and community members with their school district.
Responsibilities
- Develop and support strategic communications for Harnett County Schools
- Create and manage content for district social media, website, publications, and other digital platforms
- Produce news stories, feature stories, announcements, graphics, and other public-facing communications
- Develop internal communications and multimedia resources that support students, employees, training, and district operations
- Provide photography, videography, interviews, drone footage, editing, and multimedia coverage of schools, events, programs, and district initiatives
- Highlight and celebrate student achievement, employee excellence, innovative programs, and district accomplishments
- Develop communications campaigns supporting district priorities, events, initiatives, and community engagement
- Collaborate with district leadership, schools, and departments to develop communications materials and share important information
- Maintain consistent messaging, branding, editorial standards, and visual identity across district communications
- Monitor district events, news coverage, digital engagement, and community conversations to identify communications needs and storytelling opportunities
- Coordinate and respond to public records requests in accordance with applicable state and federal law

Public records requests may be submitted through the district's online request form. Requests are coordinated with the appropriate schools and departments to identify and provide responsive public records in accordance with applicable law.
