Digital Learning Competencies

The North Carolina Digital Learning Competencies provide a framework for educators and leaders to effectively integrate technology into instruction and school operations.

Teachers leverage digital tools and resources to enhance instruction, personalize learning, foster student engagement, and improve student outcomes.

School Administrators create and support innovative learning environments that promote effective technology integration and digital-age teaching practices.

Instructional Coaches support educators through professional learning, collaboration, and ongoing guidance to strengthen technology integration across classrooms and schools.

Professional Learning & Resources

Harnett County Schools provides educators with access to a variety of professional learning opportunities and instructional resources to support digital teaching and learning.

Available supports include:

  • District-provided professional development and training

  • ISTE resources and professional learning opportunities

  • North Carolina Digital Learning professional development resources

  • State-provided Canvas courses through NCEES and #GoOpenNC

  • NCBOLD professional learning sessions and recorded webinars

  • Research and instructional content available through NCEdCloud resources, including EBSCO and Britannica

K–12 Digital Learning Standards

North Carolina has adopted the ISTE Standards for Students to help ensure all students develop the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in a digital society.

Digital learning standards are integrated across all grade levels and content areas, providing students with opportunities to use technology in meaningful and engaging ways.

Students Develop Skills To:

  • Practice safe, ethical, and responsible digital citizenship

  • Protect personal information and maintain cybersecurity awareness

  • Collaborate and communicate effectively using digital tools

  • Think critically and solve complex problems

  • Create innovative products and demonstrate learning through technology

  • Build skills that support college, career, and future readiness
