Susan Fisher

Welcome!  I am Mrs. Fisher. This is my 15th year at Lillington Shawtown with our SCMC students.  I was raised in Lee County and graduated from Lee Senior High School. I graduated from Greensboro College in 1985 with a degree in Special Education with concentrations in MR/LD for grades K-12.  During the past 34 years, I have worked with students and adults in a variety of exceptional children's classrooms and settings. My first classroom was in the mountains of Virginia in a K-7 school with a resource/self-contained K-7 classroom and then grades 3-5 self-contained classroom.  Three years later, I returned home to North Carolina. Since then, I have taught junior high EC classes in Cumberland County, taught at Cape Fear Community College and Fayetteville Technical Community College, worked as a Qualified Mental Retardation Professional/Habilitation Specialist for a group home serving children with severe/profound disabilties, and Southeastern MH/DD/SAS as Director of Cape Fear Respite before taking time off from teaching to take care of my family and working as Social Services Director and Admissions Director for long term care facilities.  My husband and I left his hometown of Carolina Beach and returned to my home in Lee County when my sons were babies.  We have lived in Sanford since then.  Because I missed being in the classroom and working with students,  I returned to teaching and have been in the SCMC classroom (admittedly my favorite level), first with K-5 and now with grades 3-5 since coming to Lillington Shawtown in 2005.

Mrs. Hayes and I are excited about working with your child this year and look forward to seeing their excitement at learning and challenging new experiences as they develop new skills and their confidence in their own skills grows.  It is important to us that your child feels he or she is part of the classroom and school community.  They will be welcomed in the FishHayes classroom family.   Please contact me any time you have questions or concerns.
