Mrs. Sommer Gentry

Hello!  Welcome to Kindergarten! My name is Sommer Gentry and I am proud to be a product of Harnett County Schools.  I grew up here in Harnett County and went to Boone Trail, Western Harnett Middle, and Western Harnett High School.  I am an 11 th year Kindergarten teacher at Lillington-Shawtown.  I began my teaching career here at Lillington-Shawtown 14 years ago in the Preschool Disabilities classroom.  I received my bachelor's degree from Campbell University in Family and Consumer Sciences with a concentration in Child Development.  I graduated and became general manager of Howard's Barbecue and worked there for the next two years.  I was offered a job at Western Harnett High School in the Family and Consumer Sciences department and decided that it was a great career move.  I began my journey as a lateral entry teacher and began teaching at LSES in 2007.  During that time I received my Licensure to teach Birth-Kindergarten through North Carolina Central University. I was honored to be LSES's teacher of the year in 2012.  I love my students, fellow teachers, and school.

I have been married to my husband, Chip Gentry for 6 years and together we have 4 wonderful children (Marlee, Charli, Harrison, and Austin).  We have a Falconry business in which we enjoy training birds of prey and teaching others about the sport.  Our life is busy and full of adventures at all times.  I enjoy baking, exercising, and going to the beach and the mountains.

I look forward to working with you and your child this year as we learn, play, explore, and most of all...HAVE FUN!  Teaching is a passion of mine and I strive to meet if not exceed standards when it comes to teaching your child.  This year will be very different for us (teaching and learning).  But remember, we cand do "VIRTUALLY ANYTHING"  we set our minds to.

Love and hugs, Mrs. Gentry
