Dear Highland Elementary School Community,

As principal my leadership vision is to make a positive difference in the lives of children.  I am committed to providing the highest quality education for all students. Every decision, every day is made for the children I am entrusted to serve.   I am honored to serve Highland Elementary School as principal for the third consecutive year.   Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in volunteering or have questions for me.  I feel strongly that students need to be proficient readers and writers to find success after elementary school.  We need your partnership to help our students reach their academic goals. One easy way to help us is to read each night with your child.   Together we are reaching new heights!

HES Mission (Why we exist?):At Highland Elementary School we believe in all children.  We exist to inspire and prepare students to make a positive impact on their families, communities, and world.

HES Vision (What is the long term impact of our work?):Highland Elementary School, in partnership with parents and community, will help children discover their gifts and make a positive difference in the world.

Core Values: Passion, Kindness, Integrity, Resilience & Teamwork

School Improvement Goals for the 19-20 School Year:

  1. We will improve core instruction in literacy and improve student proficiency by at least 10%
  2. We will improve core instruction in math and improve overall student proficiency by at least 10%
  3. We will improve student engagement through participation in PBIS, global learning, and character education.

Our five year plan is to become a Letter A school--a destination for talented and passionate educators.  HES will be a sound foundation for future world changers.

Jennifer Spivey, Ed.D.

RISING KINDER PARENTS PLEASE practice letter and sound recognition with you child:

Children should read for leisure at home daily.  Please let children choose their text.   Choice allows children to foster an affinity for reading vs. forced efforts.
