Degrees and Certifications:
Hi, I'm Mrs. Fortner and I am the full time School Counselor at SHES!
I grew up in Danville Virginia, where I lived with my Mom and Dad. Both of my parents were school teachers, so I guess it came naturally for me to get a job in a school. After High School Graduation, I left home and attended Campbell University to study Exercise Science. I was convinced that I wanted to be a Physical Therapist. After my sophomore year, I had the opportunity to travel to South Africa for the summer. While I was there, working in an orphanage, I decided that I wanted to change my career path and become a Social Worker. So, I came back to Buies Creek and made the change! I graduated with my Bachelor of Social Work in 2006. Right after school, I was fortunate enough to get a job as a Hospice Social Worker. While working there, I realized that my favorite part of this job was talking to and counseling my patients' loved ones. So, back to school I went....
In 2013, I graduated from Campbell again with my Master of Arts in Community Counseling. After graduation, I began working here at SHES, and I love every minute of my job! The favorite part of my day is getting to see our students' smiling faces! When I am not at school, I love spending time with my family. My husband is a High School teacher and we have an amazing son who makes me smile every minute we are together!
I look forward to getting to know you and your family this year!
