Welcome!!! My name is Britton Sullivan and I am very excited to be at Highland Middle School. I am very honored and privileged to be serving as principal of HMS. The children and families that we serve are my top priority and I am focused on creating the best educational learning environment for our students! This is my 20th year in education and 11th year in Harnett County. I graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Social Work before earning my Masters Degree from Campbell University in Education. I then obtained by Administrator's licensure in Colorado in 2007. I have spent 12 years as a classroom teacher in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th grades, in Sampson and Harnett Counties, in North Carolina and in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I served as Assistant Principal at Overhills Elementary for four years and South Harnett Elementary for a little over a year. For the last two years, I have been honored to serve as Principal at Buies Creek Elementary. I have four children of my own, three girls and one boy, ages 21, 16, 14, and 9. My oldest attends college at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte and my other three are students here in Harnett County schools. My husband retired from the Army two years ago and continues to work closely with the military.

I look forward to working closely with all the staff, students, parents, and community members in the upcoming years to make Highland Middle School the best place to be. I encourage communication between home and school and always want to hear your input on how we can improve and continue to grow as a school. I can be reached by email at bsullivan@harnett.k12.nc.us or you may call the school at any time. Go Vikings!

As we enter the 2019-2020 school year, I have the honor of being your Viking Assistant Principal!  It is my belief that each child possesses the strength, courage, and wisdom that will guide them to become the best lifelong global learners they can be.  As we nurture children with true learning experiences that engage and propel them to become the problem solvers of today, our children achieve excellence without excuse.

I’ve been in education for over 25 years.  My journey began with teaching in Harnett County Schools for 20 years, then I made the transition to administration.  I received my undergraduate degree from North Carolina Central University in Elementary Education with a concentration in Political Science and earned my School Administrator licensure through Sandhills Leadership Academy/UNC Pembroke.

Throughout my career, I’ve earned many awards and accolades. However, none are more important than helping children reach beyond what they thought they were capable of accomplishing, by first building relationships with my students, families, and the school community. You are a huge part of the Highland Middle’s success.  Parent involvement increases student achievement and enriches the school community.  Please feel free to regularly volunteer inside/outside our classrooms. By doing so, you are providing valued attention to students, teachers, and the school community.  As we build upon existing relationships and forge new ones, let us collaboratively support the social, emotional and academic well-being of each child at HMS. Through this teaming effort, we will make tremendous progress for all.

Thank you for sharing your child with us,  and partnering with faculty/staff members to prepare children for 21stCentury learning.  I look forward to the year ahead.

Go Vikings!
