Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Dameka Watson
I am a native of Sampson County. I graduated from Union High School in 1993. I attended and graduated from Fayetteville State University with a Bachelors Degree in English Language & Literature.
As most college graduates, I started a career outside of my degree field in 1998. I began working at Central Prison in Raleigh as a Correctional Officer. Despite working outside of my degree field, teaching was imbedded in my heart and during my time there I became a training officer. I still pursued my desire to educate and earned my Masters Degree in Education Management from Strayer University. In 2007 I was promoted and transferred to Community Corrections as a Probation Parole Officer in Harnett County. In my years as a Probation Parole Officer I was a mentor and assisted in teaching new programs and policy changes to Probation staff. In 2014, I was promoted to Probation Parole Field Specialist for the District which included Lee, Harnett, and Johnston Counties. My primary duty as a Probation Parole Field Specialist was to train new Probation Parole Officers in the District.
In October 2017 I stepped out on Faith, followed my heart, and began teaching English at Triton High School. Each semester I strive to not only teach students according to the NC Standard Course of Study for English Language and Literature but I also strive to teach skills such as critical thinking and time management.
I am looking forward to building and maintaining a positive and educational relationship with all the students that I encounter in my class and at Triton High School.
Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
