Mr. Jakubovic (Mr. J)
I am incredibly excited to start my second year at Western Harnett High School! For those parents who are viewing my page for the first time, I am an obnoxiously proud graduate of the University of Michigan (Go Blue!). Following college, I was accepted into the prestigious Teach for America program which sent me to the Rio Grande Valley on the Texas-Mexico border. For two years, I taught World Geography, Pre-AP World Geo, AP World History, Psychology & Sociology. At the end of my service, I moved to North Carolina to serve as the Head of Instruction for ELA and Social Studies (8-12) at a maximum security prison for juvenile criminals. I next spent 3 1/2 years as an 8th grade department chair and Social Studies teacher at Southern Middle in Aberdeen.
I took a break from the classroom to become the Director of Education at Sylvan Learning in Fayetteville. This position allowed me the wonderful opportunity to oversee the individualized learning plan for a thousand students living across 10 different counties in central North Carolina for 4 years. Yet, I really missed the classroom.
In January of 2018, I stepped in to teach Physical Science here at WHHS during the winter term--and I could not have been more thrilled with the experience! So I am back for another (final?) year and cannot wait to share my enthusiasm, knowledge and experience with our students.
Have a good day. Don't get arrested.
