Ms. Rebecca Nance

Hi, hello, and welcome! My name is Rebecca Nance and I am your art teacher!  This is my first year at Highland and I'm THRILLED to be here!

I was born and raised in Lee County, NC.  After graduating high school, I attended Sandhills Community College and graduated with an Associates in Pre-Art Education.  I transferred to Appalachian State University in 2015 (GO NEERS!), and I still consider Boone a second home!  I student-taught at Cane Creek Middle School in Asheville my last semester at App State, and I graduated in 2017 with a BFA in Art Education with a concentration in ceramics.

All throughout my years of school, art was my favorite subject.  Originally, I was wanting to become a professional photographer, but my highschool teachers inspired me so much that I changed my mind (Thanks Mr. Noles and Mrs. Newman!)  I love all mediums of art, but my one true love is with clay.  I fell in love with ceramic work at Appalachian and hope to open my own studio and teach some clay classes to the public one day!

A little bit about myself: I LOVE Star Wars. I consider myself to be a nerd; I love video games and reading!  I also love spending time with my family and furbabies (my dogs), Ash and TJ.  I love music; played flute and piccolo in middle and high school and my all time favorite band is Gorillaz!  I don't travel much, but my dream destination is to visit Florence, Italy.  Some of my favorite artists are Andy Warhol, Banksy, Vincent Van Gogh, Nicoletta Ceccoli, and of course the one and only Bob Ross.

Happy creating!
