Ms. Erin Fossa

Hello Johnsonville Families!

My name is Erin Fossa and I am the general music teacher at JES. This will be my second year teaching in the music classroom and I am so looking forward to another great schoolyear! I have a B.A. in worship arts and an M.A. in theater studies. I have an extensive background in music having studied voice and piano for over 10 years. I am currently enrolled in East Carolina University's Education Residency program to obtain my North Carolina teaching license after having been a stay-at-home mom for five years! I have two young children of my own and I serve on the worship team at Manna Church where I play piano and sing. Music has been a part of my life since I was a child, and I am overjoyed to be filling your child's life with music as well!

This year, my activities will include performances at each of the Campus Kitchen events held at JES, Harnett County's annual Harnett Off Broadway performance, All County Honor's Chorus, assisting with the JES talent show, our annual Christmas concert and implementing free after-school piano and voice lessons in the second half of the year.

Last year, we were honored to accept a $500 grant from Harnett County Schools towards the implementation of a music therapy professional development for our speial needs educators. On August 23, 2019, our EC teachers as well as our guidance counselor and myself will receive a three-hour training on the benefits and uses of music therapy in the classroom. One hundred dollars of our grant will also be spent on musical instruments for both EC classrooms. We are very excited to take this training and begin using music to enhance the learning and development of our EC students!

In the classroom, we will be learning about rhythm, steady beat, pitch and notation. We will cover lots of different styles of music like rock, rap, jazz, broadway musicals, and gospel (just to name a few!). We will play drums, keyboards, Orff instruments, and of course sing and dance! Your children will move and groove in my classroom while learning the foundational concepts of music at the same time. We will engage, learn, and as Aretha would say- we will R-E-S-P-E-C-T each other above everything else!

If you ever need to contact me regarding events or your child's specific learning path, please do not hesitate to do so this year! I am looking forward to this year and all the potential it brings. Blessings to you and your family!
