Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Jamie McKenna
I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and express my excitement about working with your child this year. I love teaching EC students because I care deeply about each of my students. I believe students can grow and develop by examining the issues we cover in class. The main goal of my course is to see academic and behavior growth. Over the course of this year, we will be learning a lot of new academic skills as well as social and behavior management skills.
Just a little bit about myself, I am a graduate from the University of West Florida in Pensacola, FL. I graduated in 2009 with a BA in Special Education and Elementary Education. I also graduated from City University in Seattle with a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Autism. I am currently working on obtaining a Board Certified Behavior Analyst certificate. I also spent a few years in the Army National Guard as a Logistics Officer before getting out to start a family. I spent 2.5 years as a CCR teacher in Washington State working with K-5 students, 2 years spent as a 3rd-5th SED teacher and now I am excited to start my 3rd year teaching K-2 SCMC.
My husband is in the Air Force, we have been married for 9 years and have 2 little boys. Our oldest will be in Second Grade and our youngest is starting Preschool. My youngest was diagnosed with High Functioning Autism/ADHD so I know some of the struggles my families will face outside the school.
Also note that if you ever have any comments, questions or concerns, I am available for phone calls and meetings (by appointment please) each day before and after school. To schedule a meeting, you may contact me via firstname.lastname@example.org.
I am excited about working with your child. I welcome questions or comments, and am looking forward to a great year!
