Lillington, NC - The WHMS FIRST Lego League team hosted Superintendent Dr. Aaron Fleming, School Board members Eddie Jaggers and Bill Morris, County Commissioner Mark Johnson, Assistant County Manager Coley Price, Overhills High School Robotics Coach Stephanie Creech, and several other individuals on January 9, 2020, for a project presentation and robot mission session. The team's project idea was to build an additional bridge in the Raven Rock State Park area of Harnett County, NC. The team proposed this idea because there are currently only two ways across the Cape Fear River in Harnett County. Another crossing point would help alleviate traffic congestion in Lillington, especially with the county continuing to grow. The team chose the Raven Rock area because the state already owns the land (which would help with cost and not having to purchase a lot of extra land) and it could cut off an estimated 15-20 minutes of travel time between Wake and Harnett counties. They received a lot of good feedback and direction related to their project from these county officials. After the project presentation, the team showcased their robot missions.
The team has advanced to State Competition in Greensboro at NC A&T which will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2020. We wish them good luck! Go Cardinal Creators!
