Harnett County Schools moving to Plan A (In-person Instruction) For Elementary Students

LILLINGTON, NCBased on guidance from the Office of the Governor, Harnett County Schools will transition from a hybrid A/B learning model to five day in-person instruction for grades K-5 starting October 26th, 2020. 


Students in grades 6-12 currently participating in the hybrid A/B learning model will remain on this schedule until the Governor implements Plan A (in-person instruction) for middle and high school.  Any student in grades K-12 that selected remote learning as an option is permitted to remain on their current schedule.


Harnett County Schools is committed to utilizing a variety of health and safety measures aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19 and other illnesses. These include mandatory face coverings, social distancing, frequent hand-washing, and regular cleaning/disinfecting of common spaces inside of all buildings and on school buses. 


  • Five-day instruction for grades K-5 will begin on Monday, October 26.
  • Five-day instruction for grades 6-12 will begin on a future date once authorized by the Governor via Executive Order.
  • Pre-Kindergarten programs are already operating on a five-day schedule.
  • If families prefer, students may continue with five days of remote instruction.
  • Families may change the instructional setting for their student(s) on Monday, October 26 if the school is notified by October 16.
  • During holidays and teacher workdays, there will be no remote or in-person instruction.
  • Per state law, remote learning is for all students on remote days, identified as “SRL” on the 2020-2021 Harnett County Schools calendar.

Remote Learning Day

Teachers, students, and staff are remote on designated “state remote learning days.” 

Future designated “state remote learning days” are 12/21, 2/12, 3/26, and 5/7.

Five-day daily in-person instruction (Plan A) begins for students in Kindergarten through fifth grade.


Please note: Grades 6-12 will begin five-day instruction once allowed by executive order. HCS will notify parents once this date is confirmed.
