HCS Receives Purple Star Award

Harnett County Schools Receives State Recognition for Support of Military Families

LILLINGTON, NC – The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) released school districts that received the 2020 Purple Star Award. Harnett County Schools is one of ten school districts across the state to receive the Purple Star recognition for the 2019-2020 school year. NCDPI announced all 28 schools in Harnett County received the Purple Star Award for demonstrating military-friendly practices and a commitment to military students and families.


State Superintendent Mark Johnson is honoring Harnett County Schools with the Superintendent’s Purple Star District Award for having all schools qualify for the title. Harnett County Schools is the only district to receive this honor. Dr. Aaron L. Fleming, Superintendent of Harnett County Schools, is honored for this recognition. “It is important for our school district to display military-friendly practices to our students and families. Our schools worked hard, and I am pleased we received this honor. As many know, North Carolina is a great place for military families, and Harnett County Schools is leading the way in educating our military-connected students,” Dr. Fleming stated.


Jermaine White, Assistant Superintendent of Student Services stated, "Harnett County Schools is honored to be presented with the Superintendent's Purple Star District Award.  Our community takes immense pride in being recognized as military-friendly and we appreciate the opportunity to serve military students and their families throughout the school year."
