Guidelines for the use of the self-paced Professional Development Modules

(This includes the self-paced modules in NCEES)

Teachers may complete 10 hours of self-paced modules (1 CEU) per school year.  (In a five-year renewal cycle, this would equal 5 CEUs.)

  • Teachers may NOT complete more than 10 hours per school year in an effort to reach the maximum number allowed.  For example, a teacher may not wait until the last year of their renewal cycle and attempt to complete 50 hours/5 CEUs of self-paced modules.

  • Teachers are to log into their Frontline Professional Growth account and complete the Conference/Outside Provider form

  • Teachers must attach the Certificate of completion/attendance to the above form. The final award of CEU's must be approved by the local education agency.

  • Additional credit may be given for self-paced modules if part of a district or state initiative.

  • The limit of 10 hours (1 CEU) per school year does not apply to instructor-led modules.

Lifetime License Request

A lifetime license is a license issued to a teacher after 30 or more years of teaching that requires no renewal.

Per Senate Bill 219- A teacher shall be determined to have completed 30 or more years of teaching as a licensed teacher when the teacher holds a current North Carolina teaching license and has completed 30 or more years of creditable service with the Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System.

Every Educator is still required to answer the "Statement of Applicant" questions, upload documentation from the Teacher and State Employees Retirement System (TSERS) showing 30 years of service and pay $35 processing fee for the lifetime license renewal application with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
