WORLD HEALTH DAY

WORLD HEALTH DAY

April 7th is #WorldHealthDay and we would like to take this opportunity to thank our school nurses for their critical role in caring for our children. They provide care, promote health and wellness, and support our students and their families though health education, service coordination, and advice. They conduct preventive screenings, and assessments to develop and monitor health plans for students.

According to Janet Johnson, Lead Nurse for Harnett County Schools, “Our school health team is witnessing increasing concerns for students using vapes. Several students are experiencing symptoms requiring EMS response due to cardiac arrhythmia. We urge parents and guardians to support our efforts in restricting vape use in our student population.”

The use of any tobacco products is known to cause health issues like cancer and hear disease. Many believe that e-cigarettes and vape pens produce a water vapor. This is not the case. In fact, these devices produce aerosols that contain harmful chemicals and particles that are harmful to the user and others nearby. Adverse effects of vaping can cause damage to the brain, eyes, mouth, airways, stomach, heart, and circulatory system.

Together, we can prevent, and discourage vaping among our youth. Below are some free vaping/tobacco cessation resources. Help is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
