DR. BENIKA THOMPSON NAMED OMS PRINCIPAL

Harnett County Schools welcomes Dr. Benika Thompson, newly appointed principal at Overhills Middle School!

Dr. Thompson is proud graduate of Harnett County Schools. She attended Johnsonville Elementary School, Benhaven and Western Harnett Middle School, then graduated from Western Harnett High School.

As a North Carolina Teaching Fellow, she attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in middle grades education. She earned her master's degree in school administration from Appalachian State University and a doctorate in educational leadership with a specialization in curriculum and instruction from the University of Phoenix. She earned a master’s in school administration from Appalachian State University and a doctorate in educational leadership with a specialization in curriculum and instruction from the University of Phoenix. 

Dr. Benika Thompson joins us from Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, where she began her career as a sixth-grade science and language arts teacher. In her 22 years at WS/FCS, she served as a teacher, curriculum coordinator, science director, as well as a principal.

As principal of OMS, she is looking forward to re-familiarizing and engaging with the local community. She shared how she grew up just 6 miles from the school’s current location.

Her passion for public education fuels her “endeavor to promote synergy around establishing and maintaining inquiry-based learning environments which empower and engage students to contribute as a community of learners.”
