Take A Walk With Us…
Michell McNeill (District Media Specialist) and Christie Bolton (Media Coordinator for Anderson Creek Primary School) presented to librarians across the state during the annual North Carolina School Library Media Association conference in Winston-Salem.
Their session, Once Upon A Walk, Bringing the school library to the community through a StoryWalk®, showed participants how to create a fun educational activity that incorporates literacy, fitness, nature, and collaboration by combining the pleasures of reading interactive children’s books aloud while also enjoying the benefits of walking and moving together outdoors.
StoryWalks® are an innovative way to combine literacy and activity. Pages of a book are made into signs and placed along a path or a trail inviting families, children, caregivers, teachers, community members and others to follow the path of pages.
