Meet the Counselor

Ms. Jean Gentry

22-23

The guidance department at Boone Trail Elementary strives to create an environment that encourages learning and respect.  I am committed to the students and am available to help them in any way that I can. During the school year, each class in grades K-5 will have guidance lessons bi-weekly.  All grades will have guidance throughout the year as needed for special lessons. Small groups will be offered based on the needs of our students and individual counseling is available daily. August-December I will teach guidance lessons to K-2 and January-June I will teach 3-5. Of course I am available to all students who need me.

In classroom guidance, students will have lessons on decision making, dealing with emotions and feelings, conflict resolution, goal setting, thankfulness, kindness, positive behaviors, and more.  During Red Ribbon Week in October we will cover "Saying No To Drugs" and bullying lessons are given throughout the year.

In small group guidance, Social Skills groups and Friendship groups will be offered throughout the school year. Individual counseling is always available to our students during the school day, to offer one on one support for issues they are facing.

This is my eleventh year at Boone Trail and I am thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful and supportive school.  I have worked in the field of counseling for over 25 years and enjoy helping others work through issues and reach their goals.  I graduated from Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) and then attended East Carolina University, where I completed my Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling in 1995.  Most of my years in counseling have involved working with children, both teenagers and adolescents. I love what I do and will always put the needs of the students first.
