Meet the Teacher

Mrs. Marcia Dickens

Marcia Dickens

Hello Boone Trail Pioneers!  My name is Marcia Dickens.  I grew up in the Boone Trail community and I am happy to teach at the school that I attended in elementary school.  When I am not teaching I enjoy time with my husband, Jimmy, and our two daughters, Meredith and Madalyn. I enjoy our beach trips to Topsail Island, spending time outdoors, and beekeeping.  I received my undergraduate and graduate degrees in education from Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC. I have spent 10+ years teaching 3rd and 4th grades and 21 years as a Reading Recovery Teacher.  I absolutely love my job!  Being a support to teachers and parents along with watching readers and writers grow and blossom is the best!

I was trained as a Reading Recovery teacher and have enjoyed helping students in becoming better readers and writers. I use this and my ongoing training to help students learn and progress in their learning.

Literacy Reminders

Reading Reminders!

Daily reading practice is the key to better readers!  Here are some ideas for you to try at home!

Make it fun!!  Reading should be inviting and exciting, not a chore.  Take turns reading, use entertaining voices to be the characters, etc.  Your child will love the time spent with you!

Have your child tell you what the problem in the story was, who the characters were, who was the most important character and why, etc.  Also, your child might enjoy coming up with an extension to the story.

Visit the library!  Self-selection of books is very motivating to children.

Visit websites that promote reading! I have some great links on this page!

Get involved with your child's teachers!  I welcome you to email, call, or come in to talk with me!! I will be happy to share more ideas for specifically helping your child.
