Hello! My name is Summer Barefoot. I earned my Bachelor's of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Campbell University. This is my 7th year as a 1st grade teacher. Before becoming a teacher, I was a teacher assistant and bus driver with Harnett County Schools for 14 years. I live in Erwin with my husband, Rex and my two sons, Nathan and Ethan. When I am not in the classroom, I love to relax at home, read, watch movies, and participate in outdoor hobbies with my family. I am excited for another year in 1st grade at Coats Elementary School. Welcome to our class!

Policies & Procedures
Snack:
Students will be given the opportunity to have a small snack during the day. If you would like your child to have a snack during snack time, please send something with them from home.
Birthday Parties:
Our instructional day does not allow time for birthday parties. If you would like to provide a special birthday snack for our class on your child’s birthday, please let me know. All cakes, cupcakes, or cookies must be store bought.
Transportation:
If your child will be going home a different way then usual, we must have a note from a parent/guardian stating the change in transportation. We can not except a student’s word.
Attendance/Tardies:
It is essential to your child’s education that they are at school every day and on time. Students may enter the building at 7:45 from carpool or the bus and come straight to class or attend breakfast. Students are tardy if they come to school after 8:15 and will need to be signed in by a parent. Please make sure that you send in a note if your child is absent from school. If we do not receive a note within three days of the absence, the absence will be marked as unexcused. If a student is absent, they will make up missed assignments in class. Students will not be required to make up missed assignments at home unless they are out of school for an extended period of time. Please try to limit leaving school before the end of the school day. When children leave school early, it disrupts the learning day for them. Please be mindful of this and try to keep those times to a minimum.
