Policies & Procedures 🏫

Behavior Policy
We use classroom tickets to monitor classroom behavior. Once students save enough tickets, they may turn them in for a chosen item/job. We also have a class pom-pom jar. When we reach our goal on the jar, we receive extra recess! Students receive 3 verbal warnings to correct misbehaviors before a parent/guardian is contacted. Students may be written up if behavior is not corrected after parents have been contacted. We have a no bullying tolerance policy in our classroom. Students are to feel safe and welcome at all times in my class. Students are encouraged to keep their hands and feet to themselves and to come to me with altercations between their peers.

Homework Policy

Homework is given Monday-Thursday. Homework consists of skills and concepts that we are learning that week in class, so it is important for students to practice and bring questions/concerns with them to class the next day for discussion/review. Homework is counted as part of their participation grade in my class. I have created a Google Classroom for our class. Announcements and homework assignments will be posted here for students and parents if needed. This will serve as an additional communication source between parents and myself.

Tests and Assignments:

Students are given weekly spelling tests. Practice tests are given on Thursday. Retakes are on Friday's if needed. Students also are assessed every 2 weeks on math fast facts. Regarding assignments, students are given ample time to complete in class assignments and are allowed opportunities to correct/fix mistakes for the chance at a better grade. Our new reading program, Benchmark, requires students to take reading assessments every 3 weeks (at the end of each unit). These assessments cover material being taught in class-- phonics, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. Students are encouraged to take their time on these and use the test taking strategies that are covered in class.

Newsletters

I send students home with a weekly newsletter. These contain important information for students and parents such as, upcoming tests/quizzes, field trips, school events, classroom events, etc. Please make sure you take the time to look these over and email me with any questions.

All important information will also be posted in Class Dojo and Google Classroom.

Attendance

We have a lot of material to cover in a short amount of time, so it is important for students to be present in class as much as possible. When students are absent, please send in a note with them the next day (or you may email it to me). I am not allowed to excuse any absences without a note.
