Coat-of-Arms
The Harnett Central Middle School coat-of-arms on display at the main entrance represents the history and heritage of the four community schools from which HCMS was formed. This coat-of-arms was drawn and developed by Mrs. Mary Lou Redding, a grandmother of a former student.
The shield shows the academic areas and discipline areas of the total curriculum, i.e., subject areas, arts, careers, physical education and sports, and the commitment by the faculty and staff for fairness equality, and justice in providing the greatest educational environment possible to all students. The color backgrounds of each area of the shield are respective colors of Buies Creek (dark blue), Lillington (green), Angier (purple) and LaFayette (royal blue), the four former community middle schools. The mascot, Raider, is shown above the shield and supporting the National symbol, the eagle. The Dogwoods, representing the state of North Carolina, cushion the bottom of the shield. The lion depicts the strength of the school, i.e., students, parents, and faculty working together, and the ribbon at the bottom provides the initials of the school, the motto COMMISSUM - Commitment; FIDELITAS-Loyalty; CONCORDIA-Unity, AND SUCCESSUS-Success, and finally the year for the school's opening, 1992. The wording of the motto symbolizes the commitment by students to do their best, being loyal and faithful to the school and to each other, and through unity in working with and helping each other to become the successful future leaders of the community, state, the nation, and the world.
