Meet the Teacher

Mrs. Rogelyn Usin-Mendrez

Mrs Mendrez

Hello and welcome! My name is Mrs. Rogelyn S. Usin-Mendrez, and I’m honored to be part of the amazing team here at Lillington-Shawtown Elementary School. I bring with me 17 years of teaching experience in elementary education and a deep passion for helping students grow academically and personally.

I am originally from the Philippines, where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Western Mindanao State University in 2008. Shortly after, I pursued my Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and am currently working toward completing my Doctorate in the same field at the same university. Education has always been both my profession and my passion.

Before coming to the United States in 2024, I taught for 3 years at an international school and 13 years at a public elementary school in the Philippines. During that time, I also served as a Journalism Coordinator for 16 years, coaching students who went on to win awards at the national level. Those experiences helped shape my commitment to excellence and my belief in every child’s potential to succeed.

This is my second year teaching 4th grade at Lillington-Shawtown, and I truly feel at home here. I’m a proud mother of one wonderful child, and outside the classroom, I enjoy traveling, listening to music, and singing; these hobbies keep me balanced, recharged, and motivated to give my best each day.

I am so excited for the new school year and can’t wait to meet my new group of bright, curious 4th grade learners. I look forward to building a warm, engaging, and successful classroom community together!
