Welcome to fourth grade!

My name is Haley Nash, This is my 13th year at Lillington-Shawtown. I graduated from Campbell University with my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education, and a Middle Grades extension in history. I moved to North Carolina from California. When I was going through elementary/ middle/ high school, I was involved in basketball, soccer, volleyball, track, dance, swim team, lifeguarding, and student government. Some things I enjoy doing include traveling, kayaking, camping, scuba diving, wakeboarding, sailing, snowboarding, and spending time with my family, four children, friends, and church family. One of the main reasons that I chose teaching as my profession is because, I know that I can’t change where a student is coming from or what they come in knowing, but I can influence where they end up. “Every child deserves a champion: an adult that will never give up on them, who understands the power of connections and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.”

I believe in creating a safe environment where children are comfortable to be themselves, share and ask questions openly, and take risks. I have found that students learn best through active, hands-on engaging lessons that are relevant to their lives and appeal to their individual learning styles. Students will be assessed not only through tests and quizzes, but also through various projects, experiments, presentations, speeches, and a variety of writing samples whether it be a letter, advertisement, journal, or even a cartoon strip. This year we will not only be covering the basic facts, but learning to think outside the box, and learning to problem solve using higher order thinking skills. I guarantee you that I will do whatever it takes to ensure that every child by the end of the year has felt a sense of personal and academic success.

I am very excited to make this year the best experience for your child. Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns throughout the year. The best way to contact me is through text or email. Please understand that if you email or call during the instructional day I will not be able to reply until that evening. I look forward to working with you and your child!
