Meet the Teacher
Mr. Larry Byrd

Welcome to Carpentry class here at Triton High School. We offer Introduction to Construction as our beginning class. Next we have levels 1, 2, and 3.
Our beginning class focuses on safety in the workplace, construction math, communication skills, and employability skills. Some basic blueprint reading and tool identification are also introduced in this beginning class.
Level 1 class deals with the materials used and the most common tools used in the construction industry. This class is where the student will start seeing the components of floor systems, wall systems and roof systems as they exist in the construction trade.
Levels 2 and 3 concentrate mostly on framing an actual 24 foot by 36 foot structure from the ground up. This hands on activity is just like on the job training. The structure, when completed, will serve as a classroom hut somewhere in the Harnett County School District.

Hello everyone, I have been teaching carpentry in Harnett county since 2003. I graduated from Triton High School in 1987, and then went on to attend Western Carolina University. Through the years I have enjoyed teaching and building with the students here in the school district. When I am not working I really enjoy fishing and hunting whatever is in season. Let"s have a great school year!
