#HispanicHeritageMonth Let us celebrate the many contributions, diverse cultures, and history of the American Latino community. #MeetTheTeacher: Mrs. Viviana Lopez-Arcelas Mrs. Lopez-Arcelas is a 5th grade teacher at Angier Elementary School. She is from Cali, Colombia and started her career with Harnett County Schools in 2013 to initiate the Spanish Dual Immersion Program at North Harnett Primary School. “I love seeing the kids learning a second language… and learning about the world.” Mrs. Lopez is proud not only to teach the Spanish language but to grow mindsets through cross-cultural awareness. By incorporating cultural immersion through language, art, and music in education, we are developing global citizens who are prepared to learn, work and lead in a competitive, multilingual, ever-changing environment. #WeAreHarnett #SuccessWithHCS #InspiringLearners

The partnership and collaboration between Harnett County Schools and South River Electric Membership Corporation put capital credits at work to bring Career and Technical Education across the county. This week, we celebrated this collaboration at a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil the HCS CTE mobile unit. The CTE Trades Trailer was funded through capital credits, a refund program administered by South River EMC. It contains carpentry, electrical tools and simulators, as well as animal science, health science, and agriculture mechanics trainers and activities. The trailer is designed to expand the reach of Career and Technical Education into the community, elementary schools, and other underserved areas in Harnett County. #WeAreHarnett #RelationshipsMatter #CTE4NC #SuccessWithHCS #HereWeGrowAgain

Amy Crockett (HCS Student Support Services Coordinator), Lauren Cappola (HCS Director of Counseling Services), Jan Rogers (CAC Director and Forensic Interviewer), and Jermaine White (HCS Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services) look on as Dr. Aaron Fleming (HCS Superintendent) signs the Memorandum of Understanding renewing the partnership between Children’s Advocacy Centers and Harnett County Schools. The CAC raises community awareness about child abuse and provides resources for the safety and protection of children. A multidisciplinary team, composed of CAC staff and representatives from all intervening agencies, frequently review active cases. Harnett County Schools Student Support Services staff serve on this multidisciplinary team to best support students and families who may be involved with the CAC. According to Jan Rogers, the partnership with HCS has optimized their ability to serve children, since schools are where children spend much of their time. Harnett County Schools is dedicated to the same mission and is thankful for Children’s Advocacy Centers for everything they do for our community. #TogetherWeServe #Children #ChildProtection #WeAreHarnett #SuccessWithHCS
