Attention Students, Parents, Employees and General Public:
The Harnett County School System offers a comprehensive program of Career & Technical Education for students in grades 9 through 12 at Harnett Central, Overhills, Triton, and Western Harnett High Schools. Programs are offered in Agriculture, Business, Finance and Marketing, Computer Science, IT, & Technology, Health Science, Family and Consumer Sciences, Technology Engineering & Design, and Trade and Industrial Education. Special services are available for students who may need assistance to be successful in a Career & Technical Education program.
Cooperative education, internships and on-the-job training is available to students in grades 11 and 12. Job shadowing and other career exploration opportunities are available to students in grades 9-12. Not all programs are available at all schools. Career Exploration courses are available for grades 7 and 8 at Coats-Erwin, Dunn, Harnett Central, Overhills, and Western Harnett Middle schools, with a limited number of offerings at 6th grade. The mission of Career & Technical Education is to help empower students for effective participation in an international economy as world-class workers and citizens, through preparation for further Career & Technical Education and initial employment.
It is the policy of Harnett County Schools that all students are admitted to Career & Technical Education courses without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex or handicapping conditions. Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender in education programs. Each of the Harnett County Schools and the Central Office has conducted self-evaluations to identify and remove any and all practices in conflict with Title IX. Mrs. Courtney Blackburn, a member of the Central Services Staff, has been appointed to hear cases dealing with Title IX regulations. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 prohibits discrimination on the basis of handicap in education programs.
