Sportsmanship
Coaches, Students and Parents are expected to demonstrate sportsmanship at all times. This includes toward officials and visiting teams.
Be a true sportsman, recognize that good sportsmanship is more important than victory by approving and applauding good team play, individual skill and outstanding examples of sportsmanship and fair play exhibited by either team.
Remember that the primary purpose of interscholastic athletics is to promote the physical, mental, moral, social, and emotional well-being of the players through medium and contest.
Recognize that officials are trained in the rules of their sport with no bias toward any outcome. Respect the difficult job that officials have and refrain from verbal abuse at all times.
Officials are human, like all of us they sometimes make errors, but without them school athletics cannot continue.
Parent/Coach Relationship:
Parenting and Coaching are both difficult roles. In these roles our actions are guided by what we see as most beneficial to the children we serve. In order to work together for the benefit of student athletes please consider the following guidelines:
Appropriate Communications between a parent and a coach include:
Locations, times and requirements of practice and games
Team rules and guidelines, including consequences for infractions
Team selection process
Notification of injuries
Responsibilities/Care of equipment and uniforms provided by the school
Ways to help your child improve their skills.
The treatment of your child or concerns about your child’s behavior.
Inappropriate Communications between a parent and a coach include:
Discussions of playing time or positioning
Discussions of play calling, strategy or in-game decisions
Discussions about any other student that is not your child
If you need to discuss any concerns with a coach:
Please do not confront a coach before or after games or practices. Emotions are typically high in these moments and meetings of this nature do not promote positive resolution.
Call or email the coach to schedule an appointment
If the coach cannot be reached or does not return your call, call the School Athletic Director who will assist you in establishing communications.
