Dear 8th Grade Students and Families:
We are proud to inform you that Overhills Middle School will host an end-of-the-year Promotion Ceremony for our 8th-grade students. We realize the importance of middle school in their educational journey and want to celebrate this accomplishment and wish them well as we send them on to high school. Eighth graders are our role models; as such, they must maintain a level of behavior and achievement that one would expect of middle school "veterans". We fully expect all students to move happily and constructively through their final days at Overhills Middle, to make their families proud at the promotion ceremony. We are extremely proud of all our students, and awards will be presented to students who have demonstrated outstanding performance, growth, and commitment.
The Promotion Ceremony will be held on May 22nd, 2026, and begins promptly at 9:00 am. No bags are permitted, unless medically necessary. All will need to clear the Evolv system for admittance. Doors will open at 8:00 a.m., and the processional begins at 8:50 a.m. There will be no admittance once the processional begins. Please note that seating is determined by arrival. Seats cannot be reserved in the gym. We will provide overflow seating in the auditorium, which can be viewed on a screen. Please keep in mind that many families will be celebrating. If you would like to take your student with you after the ceremony, please complete the 2026 OMS 8th Grade Promotion Pre-Checkout Google form by 8:00 p.m. on May 21, 2026. A valid driver's license or valid photo identification is needed for checkout.
8th Grade Student Attire:
Balancing many different sensitivities and perspectives regarding dress codes during an occasion such as a promotion ceremony is tricky. The attire for the event is dressy casual. While students will not be confined by the dress code, we do recommend an outfit that is fitting for the occasion. While we share this recommendation, we want all eligible students to participate.
Ladies: No midriffs, see-through clothing, or revealing tops or bottoms, tank tops, or spaghetti straps. Shoes with appropriate heels and sandals are okay. No flip-flops if possible.
Gentlemen: Button-up or Polo shirts, dark color trousers, and closed shoes. No sagging pants. No flip-flops if possible.
Fines and Materials: 8th graders make sure all instructional materials are returned. All fees and missing books from the Library/ Cafeteria/Technology (Chromebooks/Charger) need to be cleared before the last day of school.
Dismissal:
Students who do not have the early release form completed will be escorted back to class. Those with the form will remain in a location and be reunited with their families. We have a wonderful ceremony planned and want to personally thank all of you, parents, for entrusting your precious child(ren) with our staff here at Overhills Middle School! It has been a pleasure and a wonderful journey, and we wish you and your child(ren) the best in high school and beyond!
