Calling all juniors in high school! Apply today to serve as a Student Advisor on the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council. If you are interested in state education issues, advocating on behalf of your peers, and serving as an advisor to decision-makers in K-12 education, this application is for you!
The Student Advisory Council meets monthly, and members serve a two-year term that concludes at the end of their senior year of high school. Throughout the appointment, advisors hear from experts at the Department of Public Instruction, State Board of Education, the General Assembly, and the Governor's Office, among others, to learn about issues facing our state and what can be done to support students, teachers and our local school districts and charter schools.
At the conclusion of each year, advisors present a proposal to address an evolving state education issue to the Superintendent and other state leaders. Whether you attend a charter school, laboratory school, residential school, traditional public school, magnet school, year-round school - this opportunity is for you!

Applications are available for Tarheel Boys State at Catawba College, June 15-21, 2025.
Boys State is a leadership program of action. Participants learn the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of franchised citizens. The training is objective and centers on the structure of city, county, and state governments. Operated by students elected to various offices, Boys State activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law-enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, distinguished guest speakers, and recreational programs.
