2025 Harnett County Farm-City Week events. This year is the 70th anniversary of Farm-City Week.

Since 1955, National Farm-City Week has celebrated farmers and highlighted agriculture’s role as the backbone of local, state, and national economies. Each year, the local Kiwanis and Harnett County Cooperative Extension Service honor achievements in agriculture, education, and community development during Farm-City Week. Events such as art, baking, and hay-bale decorating competitions, scholarships, award recognitions, Ag Day, etc bring our communities together. There are many activities and events planned to celebrate and advocate for Harnett County agriculture, which your students are eligible to participate in.

Visit the below link for details on:

-$1500 Kiwanis Club Farm-City Week Scholarship Application/Details (seniors)

-Art Competition Details (open to all ages)

-Baking Competition Details (Youth ages 8+)

-Young Ag Entrepreneur of the Year Award Details (K-12)

Agriculture is Harnett County’s leading industry, fueled by growth from neighboring Wake and Cumberland Counties. The county ranks in the top 30 statewide for cotton, hay, soybeans, sweet potatoes, tobacco, broilers, and hogs, with 2015 cash receipts totaling over $201 million. Harnett stands 14th among North Carolina’s 100 counties in total farm income.

Questions? Reach out to designated persons noted for each event on the website provided above, or feel free to reach out to Lindsey Hardee, Farm-City Week Committee member/HCS CTE Director.

Did you know? Through NC Promise, the state has significantly reduced student tuition cost to $500 per semester at four UNC System institutions: Elizabeth City State University, Fayetteville State University, UNC Pembroke, and Western Carolina University. The plan has increased educational access, reduced student debt, and grown the state’s economy.
Check out the link below for more information or ask you school counselor for more insight.
