Paper Chain S.T.E.M. Challenge

Ms. Sherman’s S.T.E.M. (Science Technology Engineering & Math) class were challenged to make the longest paper chain using 2 pieces of construction paper and 15 inches of tape.

One of the students is Chance, a rising 6th grader participating in the Summer Bridge program at Western Harnett Middle School. He said that "the paper chains were fun to create but you had to figure out the process to make the chains, so that they would be longer than the other student's chains".

This activity helps students develop critical thinking skills through an engineering exercise where students get to plan, design, and execute their own ideas.
