Harnett County Schools follows the guidelines of The Scripps National Spelling Bee. Each year, elementary and middle school students, in Grades 3-8, are invited to participate in their classroom/school spelling bee. Classroom winners may participate in a school-wide spelling bee before advancing. Winners from each school are invited to participate in the annual Harnett County Spelling Bee. The Harnett County champion will head off to compete in the next round of our area's spelling bee program.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee illuminates pathways to lifelong curiosity, celebrates academic achievement and enriches communities. By participating, students are inspired by the exploration of words and are able to develop their vocabulary and language skills. They also straighten life skills, practice poise under pressure, and build confidence...all while having fun!!!
